Mogadishu films and original novels
Mogadishu is a true story based film based on an incident in which employees of the South and North Korean embassies risked their lives together during Somalia’s 1991 civil war. Before it was based on a true story, the original film was based on Kang Shin-sung’s escape from a true story in 2006. Writer Kang Shin-sung is a Korean diplomat who studied at Seoul National University and Oxford University, worked as consul general in Vancouver and Hawaii, and worked as the first ambassador to Somalia for three years from 1987. I can imagine how realistic it must be because it is a novel based on the actual experience of escaping from the danger of civil war by helping the North Korean embassy staff in January 1991 with the staff in Somalia in January 1991. It is not easy to get this book now. There’s a reason it’s out of print, but it’s hard to find it in the library. Let’s take a look at the true story of the actual event at that time. It doesn’t appear in the movie at all, but in fact, the first start of the Somali civil war begins with the shooting and murder of a priest sent by the Vatican. The conflict turned red when the Bare regime abused the murder of the bride to execute anti-government figures. In the movie, it seemed like it would be too long to contain all of these contents, so I think it was adapted very briefly. The movie adapted and edited a lot of true stories, but the movie itself was quite good. It was released in July 2021, but it was a pity that the audience was only 3.61 million even though it was a good work due to the aftermath of COVID-19 at that time. However, thanks to the popularity that has continued to this day, it has been reopened this Chuseok. That’s how much ticket power was left. So far, Naver’s rating is 8.7 points, which is quite good.
actual embassies’ efforts to join the United Nations
The director of Mogadishu is Ryu Seung-wan. Kim Yun-seok plays Hanshin, the ambassador of the Korean Embassy, and he performs a very ripe performance. There are many details of English lines that seem to have been sent abroad that are not perfect and learned in old age. Hanshin strives to join the United Nations throughout the night in Somalia. However, he is also a person who is constantly blocked by the North Korean embassy and has the drive to push until the end even if he fails. Cho In-sung played Kang Dae-jin, a South Korean embassy councilor who is an agent of the Ministry of Security and Security. As an agent of the Ministry of Security and Security, I have abundant fighting skills and practical experience, and I try harder than my passion for work by forging the passports of North Korean embassy employees and spreading unfavorable news in order to create a favorable situation for South Korea. He is a fictional character based on Lee Chang-woo, a councilor belonging to the Korean Embassy’s Ministry of Security and Security at the time of the Somali incident. Kim So-jin played Kim Myung-hee, the wife of Ambassador Hanshin. Kim Myung-hee, along with her husband, depicts a devoted believer and a warm-hearted wife to embassy staff. Gong Chun-sik, an employee of the South Korean Embassy, was played by Jeong Man-sik, and Lim Yong-soo, an ambassador of the North Korean Embassy, was played by Heo Jun-ho. Tae Joon-ki, the North Korean embassy’s counselor, acted very well.
A trick to reopen in the aftermath of COVID-19
Mogadishu is a well-made film that has been well-made for a long time among real-life movies in Korea. It deals with stories that touch the delicate emotional lines between South Korea and North Korea, but also contains stories about Somalia’s own situation. The escape of Koreans escaping from the situation and atmosphere is a really good material and it can’t be fun. Maybe that’s why it was sold to 50 countries abroad and won the grand prize and the best picture award at the Baeksang Arts Awards. The Blue Dragon Film Festival won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Art. Mogadishu would have been very disappointed that such a trick would have only reached 3 million visitors in the aftermath of COVID-19. The production cost itself is about 24 billion won, but we need to mobilize at least 6 million viewers to break even, but it’s too bad to just bury it like this. This year, the situation in the theater district improved and Mogadishu was re-released because it was a good movie to see in the theater. The actors’ performances were also quite good. Kim Yoon-seok is a reliable actor, and Cho In-sung’s acting is getting better. It looks better because you act naturally and without any weight rather than forcing out emotional acting like before. Also, the most popular actor recently, Koo Yeon-hwan’s acting is also excellent. Director Ryu Seung-wan’s casting pioneer eye looks so good. The weather looks very hot, so I think the actual actors must have had a hard time. Currently, Mogadishu in Somalia is not allowed to Koreans. That’s why it was filmed in Esau, Morocco, Africa, but I think it’s hotter than Mogadishu. As much as the hard work of the actors, the movie is very fun and well made. If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend you to watch it.
