[Introduction to Connect Drama]
All six episodes of the Disney+ original series drama ‘Connect’ were released simultaneously on December 7th.
This work tells the story of ‘Connect’ Jung Hae-in, a new human with an immortal body, who is kidnapped by an organ trafficking organization and loses one eye.
It is based on the story of immortality, and like similar genres, this work will also be directed against a dark background. The main cast includes actors Jung Hae-in, Go Kyung-pyo, and Kim Hye-joon, and director Miike Takashi, who is known as the master of Japanese cinema, directs this work, which became a hot issue.
The main poster draws attention with the sharp eyes of Jeong Hae-in (Dong-soo), an immortal who lost one eye in an organ trade. Centered on Jung Hae-in staring straight ahead, the cold eyes of serial killer Go Kyung-pyo (played by Jin-seop) overlap, creating a sense of tension. It implies that the two will be in a tense confrontation in the future. In addition, Jung Hae-in’s helper Kim Hye-joon (played by Lee Rang), who knows the secret of Connect, adds a mysterious atmosphere and connects them with tentacles using CG to express unique and colorful visuals.

Currently, the popularity of Disney+’s original content “Connect” is alarming. Since its first release on the 7th, Disney+ users have quickly expanded, breaking the starting line smoothly. Disney Plus is struggling with the domestic online video service (OTT) market due to Netflix, TVing, and Wave. Attention is focusing on whether Disney Plus, which fell to the bottom, will face a new twist.
Starting with the release of Connect, the number of Disney Plus users has increased significantly. According to Mobile Index, a mobile data analysis platform, on the 13th, the number of Disney+ users per day on the day of the release of Connect was about 240,000. Compared to the number of daily users, which was 194,000 on the 6th, the day before the release, about 46,000 users came in.
Users’ time to use Disney Plus has also increased significantly. It increased by up to 45,000 hours a day. The total usage time of Disney Plus on Friday of the week when Connect was released was 165,000 hours. Compared to Friday (117,000 hours) before its release, it used about 48,000 hours more.
Great attention is being paid not only to Korea but also to overseas. According to Flix Patrol, a global OTT ranking aggregation site, it has maintained its third place in Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Taiwan on the 12th.
Shin Dae-sung, author of the webtoon “Connect,” introduces praise for Disney Plus’s original series “Connect.”
“The most anticipated part is how much the video of ‘Connect’ will be the same as the original work and how a different story will unfold,” he said. “From the first to third episodes, the story based on the original story was developed, so it was quite fun to watch compared to the original story,” he said, expressing favorable reviews for “Connect,” which went one step further from the original story.
Among the most memorable scenes and lines, Shin Dae-sung cited the scene where “Dong-soo” returns to its original form after being caught by an organ trafficking organization and the line explaining why “Rang” puts on a band-aid. “I liked all the CGs, but Dong-soo’s return to the original operating room scene seems to show the characteristics of ‘Connect’ at once,” he added. “The story of the band-aid with Rang was not in the original story, but it seemed to symbolize the setting of the work.”
Finally, Shin praised the director’s production that maximized the fun of the material, actors who showed visuals and passionate performances beyond the original characters, naturally embodied CG, corpse art and songs, and expressed his affection for Connect.
